🌺Learning Theory: “What’s Life” Through a Tarot

2022.05.07

One day, I happened to have a tarot fortune teller read my fortune. This tarot reading was deeply meaningful to me.

I’m not aiming to talk about fortune telling, but to dive into its philosophical meaning and how deeply it can impact our lives. So, I hope I’ve caught your interest.

Tarot card reading uses 78 cards, and each card has a picture, which has its own specific meaning. Today, I will only talk about one of them, and how it is related to our lives.

If we pick up The Wheel of Fortune card, the Tarot will give us a positive message – “A big chance something great will come to you very soon.”

However, in tarot reading, all of the cards have two possible different meanings depending on how the card is facing when you pick it up. A straight facing position has a positive connotation, but if the card is in the opposite position of straight, it will have a negative connotation. This means that “Something may not come to you soon” or “it will not go well,” etc.

If you pull the card and it’s not straight and you worry about the negative meaning, then it’s important to think about how to solve the problem or what kind of action is needed to lead to success. After picking up a card with a “negative” side, we will find a good way or clue on how to make things better.

The tarot doesn’t want to tell us the card is not straight and things will not go well for us. Instead, it prompts the question, “What will you do?”.

The meaning of the card, Wheel of Fortune, is “good things and bad things come together and these are both necessary for us.” Bad luck doesn’t always continue forever, and same with good luck. Things which happen to us, whether good or bad, are necessary. What happens to us isn’t by chance but by destiny.

I’m not sure whether tarot fortune telling is good or not, but it’s useful to learn the meaning and philosophical messages of each card as they can help direct our decisions.
